Did You Know that both Donald J. Trump's and Kamala Harris' mothers were Immigrants? (9/27)
If we set up a merit-based immigration system, his mother's occupation would not qualify. Her mother's and father's occupations would qualify. Our immigration system should now move to a merit-based system. Forget about a system that gives priority to the parents of immigrants. Family priorities should only be given to the spouses and children of U.S. citizens.
Why We don't need Illegal Immigrants (9/26)
- They are counted in the U.S. Census
They distort the representation of legal residents in determining the size of congressional districts
They increase the amount of federal aid that is based on population that goes to states with higher percentages of illegal residents
They tend to be represented by members of Congress who favor illegal immigration. - They compete for work against U.S. citizens who pay FICA and income taxes.
People who employ illegals get cheap labor that costs state and local taxpayers
Employers who are U.S. citizens should be fined if they hire illegal aliens.
Employers who are immigrants should be deported if they hire illegal aliens
If they eventually become U.S. citizens, their Social Security and Medicare beneftis will substantially exceed their contributions. - Their children who are born here automatically become U.S. citizens.
This makes it difficult to deport their illegal parents.
These children are now eligible to qualify for more government benefits.
Illegal immigrants who file Form 1040 tax returns with an ITIN can claim a child tax credit for the child who has a Social Security Number
ITIN filers are not eligible for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) but maybe eligible for state EITCs
More research is needed to determine the costs and benefits of illegal immigrants being allowed to file ITIN tax returns - All their children are entitled to free schooling and free medical care in the emergency rooms of hospitals.
The costs of educating their children is paid for by state and local taxpayers
Their presense in the schools may make it more difficult for students who only speak English to learn.
The costs of providing medical care to their children forces hospitals to raise prices to serve legal residents - They and their children maybe a public health risk.
They may have a communicable disease.
They may avoid getting vaccinated - There presence here increases the demand for housing
Increases in the population increase the price of housing and reduces affordability - They and their teen-age children maybe a public safety risk
Without verifiable documents how do we know if they are criminals or terrorists?
Presumably, there is an unreporting of crimes committed
More unbiased research is needed to determine crime rates and incidents of crime in illegal immigrant communmities
Here are some suggestions to help Democrats retain the Senate and win the House (updated 6/20/24)
- Continue to work with some Republicans to enact H.R. 2, Secure the Border Act of 2023.
- Review the Congressional Budget Office Cost Estimate to see what the bill proposes and costs.
Note that the CBO estimate only includes the estimated net cost to the federal budget for 10 years and ignores the net savings that state and local taxpayers will realize if the legislation is enacted. - It appears that Trump and his oxymoron Trump patriots in the House don't want to change the policy now.
- Biden did announce in his State of The Union Speech a new restrictive border policy
- Remember what Ronald Reagan said "A nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation."
- Propose legislation to reimburse non-sanctuary states for their costs incurred to support asylum seekers, refugees. and illegal aliens
The average annual per pupil cost of public education varies from a low in Utah of around $8,000 to over $25,000 in many industrialized states. - Work with the governments of the countries that are the source of the border-crossing immigrants to improve safety and living conditions in their home countries
This could include working with U.S. charities that provide services in these countries and establishing sanctuary areas.
- Review the Congressional Budget Office Cost Estimate to see what the bill proposes and costs.
