12/1: Who are "We the People"

The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution proclaims:

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

By using the words "We the People", the authors are proclaiming that they are the representatives of the people snd not the representatives of the corporations and other artifical enetities.

The conservative Supreme Court in the 2010 Citizens United v. FEC case came to a questionable 5-4 decision that extends the First Amendment's free political speech rights of individuals to corporations and other non-person entities. Dissenting Justice John Paul Stevens stated that corporations are not "We the People" in the Constitution and "they cannot run for office and they cannot vote"
